The point is that if I accept that then it gives the message that it is ok to more than double the going rate to unsuspecting tourists who have just arrived and don't know the real deal. I was more than happy to walk 250 metres outside the gates and give my fare to the prefectly nice driver outside.
It also means I have an extra $5-7 to sepnd to help another person, maybe in a shop or food stall.
