I posted this a little while ago, but since then I have seen a few people ask again. So thought I would post it again in case someone is interested.
I know there's often people asking about iphone unlocking and how to unlock etc. I have some info and you can take it or leave it. lol
Telstra now unlock your phone for free.
Here's what you need to do.
If you've got an iphone, ring telstra and they will ask you for the IMEI number. (this number is found in settings - general - about)
Once they have unlocked it they tell you it can take 5-72 hours. I just waited over night.
Next. If you have your sim card locked with a pin number on it, you need to disable the pin for this process to run smoothly. (this is done in settings - phone - sim pin)
Next, if you have a passcode to get into the phone, disable this too. (found in settings - general - passcode lock)
Now you're ready to get it all done.
Put phone onto computer to open itunes. sync your phone and back up (this is usually done automatically also make sure you're syncing everything you want, pictures, apps, windows contacts, music, etc etc).
Then check itunes for any updates. If there's an update, please update itunes then re sync phone again. If no updates, click RESTORE.
This will then take you through the process. It takes up to about 20 mins depending on how much you've had on the phone and in itunes.
At the end of the RESTORE part, it will come up with a message "congratulations your phone is now unlocked from the network". Then the phone continues on, it will ask what you want to sync to. Choose your "iphone" (some people have more than one appliance in itunes) and restore (or sync) from "back up". (do not do the restore as new phone, as it will wipe everything off the phone).
It will then sync and once that's done, it will come up with the "OK to disconnect" message and BAM, you're iphone is unlocked.
Free of charge!!
Hope this info helps those who weren't too sure about it. Every bit of searching I did on this did not actually go through the process properly.. im a dumba$$ when it comes to this stuff so almost need it spelt out for me. I also did not lose anything I previously had on the phone. All my pictures are still there, videos, apps, music, contacts.. everything.
Cheers
Lisa
