I haven't used a laundry in that area either... I used the Holiday inn as the prices were quite reasonable. You could do a whole bag for $8AUD. It was a promotion they had on.
We still get our money changed at the Kodak, the kodak in kuta sq near matahari had a fire last time we were there so we would just get out of cab at the dynasty and change the money.
One of the places though worth going for dinner - not sure if you know it is Pantai. It's on the beachfront, only a short walk from the holiday inn. Coming out of holiday inn on beach entrance side, turn right and head towards kuta.
have you checked out Holiday inn, they often have good rates for standard rooms. If you don't stay there, make sure you go over there for a drink one evening at the envy bar, tee it up with a night that have some form of entertainment, they have drums, traditional dance, lots of different things on different nights. The vanilla passionfruit mojita's are delicious!
There food is reasonably priced (i wouldn't say cheap but not expensive) and tasty.
I prefer Legian end however my husband like tuban as it's easy for him to go for a surf at kuta reef which is right out the front.
Enjoy! :)
