direct from Karratha to Hedland- just doublechecked on the website. As bintangplease said there are a lot of seats taken to Perth by big companies though there are more providers now and therefore more seats available- I was able to get a seat to Perth on one days notice for $250 one way but yes indeed I could've driven to Hedland and gone to Bali for the same price!
The Karratha Airport charges are going to be pretty huge- $10 overnight and gets a bit cheaper per night the longer you are away so I'm guessing it will be as much as Perth's charges!
