We stay at Besakih every time we go to Bali (6 times now) and have seen some changes over the years and all for the better. Rooms as others have said are not 4 or 5 star but a in my opinion a decent 3 star. We have stayed in both the stand alone bungalows and the hotel section rooms and I much prefer the ground floor hotel rooms as they are slightly bigger. Bathrooms are standard Bali b/rooms, shower over bath etc, rooms have tv, fridge, aircon (that works), a longish desk on one side, closets, draws, tea & coffee making facs etc. All that you need. For us the best thing about Besakih is the location on the beachfront - absolutely fabulous and love the pool right on the beach.
We mostly stay for 7 nights and have found it cheaper to book with Qantas holidays as they have a stay/pay deal that is pretty good. Last year we got 7 nights for $450AUD (think it has gone up to $480 now) which was for 2 people in a standard room (hotel section or stand alone bungalows) incl. brekky - terrific. Hotel quote $85USD per night but in the past we did get $65USD when we only stayed 4 nights but as I said we are repeat guests so that may mean something.
Have a great time, we always do. Karen
