Jetstar has also stopped us in the past (prob 3 or so years ago)
If flying with Air Asia, go through check-in, departure tax and immigration: Then once you are through to the duty free shops area, order and pay for your duty free. They will then send your duty free to your departure gate. Just before you board the plane you pick up your duty free (you will need to show your passport at this point), it then goes on the plane as carry-on luggage.....I hope this makes sense? With the $AUD being so strong against the US$ at the moment you may find it saves quite a bit of money purchasing your duty free at DPS airport.
