I doubt it would be Jet* that would stop you, we flew from Singapore to Melb last Sunday on Jetstar and you could freely buy duty free and take it on board at Singapore airport.
As Holladaze says, at Singapore you pick it up as you show your boarding pass and walk onto the air bridge.
Incidentially the duty free was much cheaper at Singapore than Melbourne.
The only risk this carries is if the plane is diverted from your home port and you have to disembark and re board the aircraft, under these circumstances you will lose your duty free.
This happened to us in late 2009 on a flight home from Bali, because of fog we couldn't land at Melb and were diverted to Sydney.
Because we were made to get off the plane all the duty free was confiscated as you were not allowed to take more than 100 ml back on the plane. Stupid really as we only got off, waited a couple of hours and then got back on again without leaving the confines of the departure lounge.
Luckily we didn't buy any duty free at Denpasar if we did it would have meant the loss of 2.25 litres each, not the way you want to end your holiday.
