My parents had the same dilema as they travel during Dec/Jan.
They managed to get via Perth with Jet* when the fares first came out which was about $370 return, although i told them to wait for AA as they were something ridiculous like $200+ return a few weeks ago.
I cant see Virg having a sale direct for that time of the year, and the prices have started very high!
So personally i would grab the AA fare before it went up any more but then again who knows what these crazy airlines will do ...
