I usually go to Candi Kuning Markets (stopping off at Pacung Indah for brekky with superb views). Spices are well-packaged there & much cheaper. I buy heaps of vanilla pods (which freeze well - they're small so when cooking allow at least 2 Bali pods for 1 in a recipe), peppercorns, star anise (which sometimes is confiscated), cinnamon quills, & lots of other things. Used to buy "saffron" but it hasn't been allowed into Oz lately. Pashminas are good & cheap (Rp50K) there, too, ditto strawberries.

After Candi Kuning Markets you could drive around the botanical gardens (entrance next to the markets) then continue on to Munduk - utterly stunning scenery.

If you just want to buy spices on the coastal tourist strip then Bintang Supermarket is OK, but, of course, far more expensive than Candi Kuning.
