I rented a car in adelaide. Avis. Thought it would be fine. A week later a charge of $3,894.13 cents appeared on my statement. It was a Visa DEBIT card, so now I was overdrawn. Avis didnt care, they said it shouldnt have happened, but in the end they didnt care. I had to put a query payment through my bank (Westpac). Strangely enough, Westpac gave me an immediate credit while they chased up Avis. Eventually all was sorted (8 weeks), but without Westpac I would have been without any cash for a week or so until I could access any extra funds I had in my mortgage.
Moral of the story. NEVER use Avis in Adelaide or anywhere else and sometimes banks are a bit better than we expect
