2 years ago I suffered achilles damage. The physio said it was a combination of wearing totally flat shoes and the fact that I started long bushwalks with no lead up.
He banned all my lovely Bali sandals.
To support your foot (and achilles tendons) correctly you need a small heel and arch support. After months of physio I am not a cripple getting out of bed. I wear Kumfs (now called Ziera) shoes. Not cheap but SOOO comfortable. I wore them all over China and Europe.
