out and about till at least 10pm.
The first time we went over we were apprehensive but were quickly put at ease by the friendliness of everyone over there.
Most of the Balinese are lovely people and we have always found that they will look out for you.
Really it depends on what time you are thinking of being out until and where you intend being. There are good and bad places everywhere in the world. Drugging and drink spiking happens in Bali just like Australia.
We have found that in Kuta the stalls and several shops are open till about 10pm and really no matter what time you are out and about there are people around.
Nusa Dua, Sanur and Ubud are quieter areas and when we have stayed in these places we did so to relax and did not go out late at night.
Most of the hotels, nearly all in fact, have security at the entrance.
We don't let our 16yr old walk the streets at night by herself as we know that there are a lot of tourist out there that are not as nice as the Bali people. She does sometimes go down and chat to the hotel security or some of the shop boys nearby that she knows but is never far from us.
