Also lots of places close a day of 2 before Nyepi so the Balinese can return to their villages to be with their families for this important day. And it can take a day or 2 for things to get back to normal.

You cannot have any lights on in your room for the 24 hours of Nyepi - TV is OK. Hotel will probably supply candles. Must keep curtains closed. If your hotel has a restaurant then you will be able to eat there but be prepared to eat dinner early so service is over before dark.

Good idea to stock up on nibblies, drinks, books, DVDs (rent a DVD player if necessary).

If you only have a week or so in Bali then it probably isn't a good idea to go over Nyepi.

I enjoyed it - loved the Ogah Ogah parade the night before & it was so very strange & pleasant being in a totally silent & still Bali (apart from roosters).
