We have been diving at Candi Dasa. Our driver for the day took us to a nice little hotel, right on the waters edge.(there are lots of them) There is very little beach at Candi Dasa, in fact none at high tide. But we hired a little boat which took us 10 minutes out to a little island, which we dived all the way around. Much of the road now up to Candi Dasa is new highway, you could possibly stop off on the way at Padang Bai, for a look around too.
Dont get me wrong, I've spent weeks at Amed and really enjoy the area, we once drove the very exciting and sometimes very scary coast road. I just think its awfully LONG way for a day trip. Deserves a longer stay when you have the time.
