Bitterly disappointed with Christmas Dinner at Indus last night. We booked for 8 people several days before Christmas after checking five other restaurants. Indus offered a lovely mixture of traditional and local menu options. We arrived on time and it took ages to get served a drink. I started to order my meal only to be told sorry no Turkey, it is finished! I was totally shocked as this is the basis of Christmas dinner for us and I had convinced our Balinese friends to give it a try. We ended up ordering Roast chicken which was a poor, dry, tasteless replacement. When it got to the desserts order I was told there was no pavlova and no trifle!!!! So all my reasons for selecting Indus were totally wrecked. Of course it was too late to go somewhere else and we had a group and needed to make the best of it so we didn't spoil the Christmas feeling for everyone. My friends and family enjoyed our evening together but there was a cloud left hanging over us. We explained to the waitress that we realised it was not her fault but she needed to understand that our Christmas traditions are based on sharing food with our family and friends and this showed total lack of respect for our booking. After the meal, my husband paid the account (the meal was about Rp 350 000 a head with taxes and drinks after that) as the price or cost was totally not an issue with us. He spoke to a man and was told the manager was not there (on Christmas night?!?). He just laughed and said we ate the meal didn't we? Of course at 7pm in the rain on Christmas Night with a group of 8 family and friends it was not really an option to walk out! Had we been offered an apology and a small discount, we would have immediately distributed this money to the staff anyway. I certainly expected more from this well established restaurant whose reputation, while declining over recent years, has suffered a big drop in my mind and after nearly 20 years of visiting, we will certainly not return and would like to offer this warning to others who may be disappointed also. The service was very slow, most of the food was not hot and tastless. Some of the starters and desserts were good. But it was the attitude of not informing us (after running out at lunch time they could have telephoned us!) then dismissing our concerns that was the biggest disappointment.
