I always pay for the front row Emergency Exit seats, extra leg room etc. and I know, up untill the budget airlines appeared, they would'nt under Airline regulations allow you to pre-book these as you must be sighted by the check-in staff as physicaly fit enough to help in an emergency, you could request them, but not book. Had a man next to me on one flight who booked and paid for a front row seat and told the hostie on the pre flight instruction they give all passengers in these seats that he was legally blind, she never bated an eyelid and whisked him straight into a seat further back, much to his disgust. I'd be interested to know as to how the airlines now get away with the practise of charging for these seats.
