I am whiter than white, no matter how long I have been there or how many times I have been there but they still know I am not new - even on my first day back, so the fake tan may not be the answer! The locals just think I am European anyway. (I asked once why they always thought I wasn't an Aussie and was told it was because I am very white, quietly spoken and never wear thongs! lol)
I think it is more in the attitude, as others have said - walk slowly and act casual. It is probably inevitable you will be pay too much for something - but, hey, it's not much to you and a lot to them so don't feel ripped off, think of the good meal you just gave them :) Relax and enjoy your trip.
