How true - the Balinese have amazing memories. And speaking of "memories of an elephant" .. on my first trip in 1990, I was having a massage on the beach and a seller was showing me some woodcarvings. I didn't much like what he had but said I would like a small elephant (indicating "small" with my hands being about the 2-3 inches high)and he said he would bring me one the next day. Well, the next day I spotted him on the beach with an elephant the size of a small foot stool! There was no way I wanted something so big, so I made a hasty exit. I spent the next two weeks ducking and weaving trying not to be seen by this guy and I am sure, even now, he would remember me! I felt so guilty! My friend reckons he is still forlornly wandering the beach with the giant elephant and he would hunt me down even now if I go back to that part of the beach :P So - NEVER promise to buy if you are not going to (especially if you haven't clapped eyes on the item!!)
