Stayed at the mercure in July this year and rooms were spacious and comfortable. There are different grades of accommodation. We stayed in rooms set out in small building with 2 rooms upstairs and 2 rooms down. The downstairs rooms we had, had a lovely veranda and looked out over the beach (not directly but at an angle which gave privacy behind the garden) The rooms are not in a big building but smaller buildings with lots of gardens surrounding. We had no trouble accessing lounges here and there was the alternative of shady areas to lay if baking in the direct sun is not to your liking. The downstairs rooms were great in that you could step up onto your verandah directly from the beach and sit there. The beach path that runs right along the length of sanur was great as we would walk along there and then access the road by walking through other hotels. If we wanted to go further up eg. sindu beach market we would catch a taxi. It is just so much a slower pace in sanur you will love it. The other reports here of the hyatt are what I have heard too, small rooms etc. As members of the accor hotel club we actually accessed those rooms at mercure for $53A per night. You join accor by accessing their website and watching out for the specials coming up for various destinations. They have a shuttle bus half hrly to take you to hardy's supermarket and we utilised that to go to other restaurants etc. up that area of sanur. Breakfast was not included in that price but there were tons of little places along the beach to have brekkie. We did not find the mercure to be crowded. There was a little laundry near the cat and fiddle with internet access and groceries etc. where we walked to each day. Every person has a different experience of bali even staying at the same places so I hope you enjoy your trip.
