I always take an old phone from home, these are old ones that have well and truley been past their contract stage with a provider. I have also brought a cheap pre paid phone but not activated it with the provider and this has also worked in Bali. Then I go and buy a sim card and credit. The price varies as some people want alot more to set you up than others and charge you more than what the sim card is worth & the credit. We have found a few places that will do it for 10-30,000 more than the actual credit and local price you pay for the sim card. I have left my email address open so if you want to know a couple of places email me. Lately I have been told to go for a Mentari card, calls are cheaper and you use the code 01016 before placing and international call. When you buy your sim ask them if there is a code to put in the phone that allows cheaper calls. I believe text cost 400rph and 1,000rph per minute for landline/mobile. When you text to Aust you need to put a +61 and then drop the 0 off the mobile number. When I ring Aust I dial 01016 61 then leave the 0 out of the state/country code example 8 (WA)then the phone number 95750000. Hope this helps
