Been going for over 20 years - only ever taken cash - A$100 are best, the smaller the denomination, the lower the rate. Now also take several hundred US dollars - VOA is easier & a number of tours - bikes, boats, rafting - will price in US$ so there's no messing around with THEIR exchange rates which can be substantially lower.
