yes it is too far for walking with a youngster. The Boardwalk restaurant at BGH is certainly lovely however dont know about cheap. Plenty of other restuarants around the area. With regards to the white water rafting, if you are reasonably fit (wouldnt recommend if you have knee problems) you will be fine, however, just ask which tour company has least amount of stairs, I beleive some companies actually drive you down to the river. Plenty of drivers around, just make sure they have A/C. If you book at tour booth, they provide a driver to pick you up I believe.
