After following some advice from BTF I purchased a sim card this trip. You need an unlocked phone. I purchased mine from the seller outside Matahari but they are more expensive than other places I am told. It cost 150,000rp for the Simpati sim and it has 5000rp credit. I purchased a further 100,000 credit and still have around 30,000 left. I have rung australia once or twice day. The dealer gave me the cheap call code. 01017 and the sms code +61 (you drop the zero from mobile numbers you are ringing)He also inserted it into my phone and activated it. I had trouble with sms as my phone would not allow the + sign on entering a number. I saw heaps at street sellers but didnt ask the price as I didnt want to find out how much extra I had paid. The sim expires in March and not sure if it will keep operating if you add credit past this date. Hope this helps. I am sure you will get heaps of replies.
