A little late but better than ever!!
Headed to Bali from Perth on AFL Grand Final replay day and being a pies supporter didn't think i would would be watching the game in Bali (thought i would have been celebrating the victory a week earlier!!)so i was a tad nervous!! The day didn't start off too well as we were on the 7.30am flight with Garuda and all was going smoothly until the Air Asia ticketing system at Perth Airport crashed meaning that they had to use 3 of the Garuda terminals to check in their passengers which meant a delay. By the time we got to the duty free area upstairs we were politely told that we didn't have time to get any duty free as we had to board the plane immdeiately which was a little dissapointing especially when once we boarded the plane we sat on the tarmac for 40 mins!!! - What made it worse was that i always normally purchase our Duty free downstairs and decided we would wait this trip.
Usual uneventful flight and arrived and through customs within 1/2 hr to meet our mate out the front who transferred us to the Breezes in Seminyak
A bit about the trip:
Watched the AFL GF at the Galaxy in Seminyak which was fantastic as was the result which meant thet the odds of waking up with a headache Sunday morning a distinct possibility and in the end was true (Bloody Cocktails!!)
Accomodation:
Breezes was sensational for the type of accomodation we were looking for. It aint flash but the rooms are tidy (who cares if their's a bit of paint peeling etc), Air con works well, staff are friendly, pool bar got a hammering (Bloody Mary's the go!!) and all in all perfect for us (Me, Wife and 15 yr old son). I would recommend the ground floor rooms that open up onto the pool area as it was great to walk out the sliding door and hop straight into the pool.
Restaurants:
We ate at Uncle Norms 3 times and have done so every trip we have been to bali since 1995. Great food, great host and cold beer.
Other restaurants included Ma Lucky Day in Seminyak which was great as was Mozzarellas, Ultimo, Rumours , Lanai & Blue Ocean. I think dining in Bali has certainly come a long way in a short period of time with a host of restaurants serving quality food.
Did a lot of the usual stuff (Scooters, white water rafting, shopping), had some great work done again by Pelangi Tailors near the melasti Beach resort and Imelda marcos (the wife) added to her already bulging shoe collection.
Drinks on the beach in Seminyak most avo's was certainly relaxing with my kind of shopping where they come to you!!!
Finally 2 highlights of the trip as follows:
1- My son and i meeting a fair chunk of the Collingwood players and having a drink with them before Shane O'Bree's wedding (He was staying at Breezes) around the pool bar.
2- Dinner at the Blue Ocean Restaurant at Double six on a Friday night. They have a band playing and later in the evening their is a Balinese Mick Jagger impersonator in his late 50's who has Mick absoultely fine tuned. They played Rolling Stones songs by request and this guy was sensational. The next afternoon we were down the beach having a drink when he walked past us and stopped for a drink and a chat and was a really down to earth guy.
All in all a fantastic holiday as always and looking forward to our next trip in March for a mates 50th and again in August for a mates wedding!!
