We always go with Wirta, (who has a boat called Boa Ventura) on the beach to the left of the Lotus Restaurant in Candidasa. There are several boats there and any of the men will take you fishing or diving. We pay Wirta 300,000 for a half day for two of us and he supplies lines and bait. We have taken up lures, but I think he prefers to use his own bait. Its a great way to meet people, over the years we have got to know the local fishermen and their families well. Mahimahi seem to be more prolific in May and June. Its quite an experience using handlines to catch them. We usually give our catch back to Wirta to sell or if we are lucky enough to catch more we take one back to the hotel kitchen!
At Sanur we just organised a junkung from the beachfront, a lot more expensive at 700,000 but then we caught a good tuna! All gear supplied again. This year we are taking rods as we have a full baggage allowance, not just the usual carry on.
