I can't say how much better that street will look without that eye sore.
I was at the opening 20 yrs ago and patronised up until about 10 yrs ago when they stopped caring about the loo's and Kitchen (YUK)+colour of the walls.
I expect 20 yrs ago when they sined up the lease it would have been around 1 to 2 thou Aud per year, where as they would want at least 20 thou Aud in this day and climate per year.
Not forgetting that a lease is fully paid upfront, be it 5, 10 or 20 yrs. All the building and fittings become the leasee's problem to maintain it over those yrs. So sure, they don't want to pay the new rate after getting it so soft for so long.
