Bartering involves the exchange of goods eg I'll give you my T-Shirt for your sarong. Decades ago this form of shopping was quite prevalent in Bali & still is now occasionally, especially in the mountain areas. We swapped heaps - & that's what bartering is, basically - swapping.

Bargaining involves money. So, for example, at a stall if you see an item you like & proceed to discuss MONEY with the vendor then that is bargaining. Haggling is somewhere between the 2.

I KNOW I am a pedant. I just hate the misuse of our anguage. In Bali both forms of transactions still apply, especially away from the tourist strip.

And sadly, on this forum the word bartering is starting to replace bargaining. Anyway, as I said I am a pedant. But I DO love the language & like to use it correctly.
