My son's birthday in Bali -
The hotel we were staying at had a small buffet breakfast each morning but we asked them for a special breakfast menu for our table for his birthday.
When we arrived in their little dining area (Swastika Hotel, Sanur) they had a big surprise waiting for us. They'd set aside an area decorated with streamers and balloons. It looked very festive. Our table had three tiered plates of fruit on it. They even gave him a birthday cake and all the staff and hotel guests in the dining area sang him happy birthday. He took slices of birthday cake around to everyone and they all shook his hand and congratulated him.
The tiers of fruit were brought to our room later and a guest even went out and bought a small gift and left it anonymously at reception for him.
The hotel only charged us for the breakfast menu. Everything else, cale, decorations, fruit, was complimentary.
At lunchtime we went to Bubba Gumps and he loved it when all the staff marched in banging posts and pans, singing happy birthday, and getting him up dancing.
We'd organised Jimmy the Magician to come to a small restaurant in Kuta and perform at our table for dinner. We'd organised a beautiful birthday cake at Bali Bakery and picked it up on our way to the restaurant. The restaurant knew it was his birthday and they'd arranged our table right near the front entrance and they also had decorated the area with balloons which could be seen from the street. More banging of pots and pans, lol.
Jimmy the Magician was hilarious and Balinese people were stopping on the street and joining in our laughter. If you'd like his contact details i suggest you make a separate post asking for them, because i no longer have them.
Whatever your son does on his birthday, once Balinese people know it's his birthday they will usually try to make it a special one :)
