As far as I know it only covers you whilst you are travelling - hence why it always asks for a return date. The cost of travel insurance would go through the roof if they had to cover you when you returned to your home country as ongoing care. What would be interesting to see is if private health cover can take up where the travel insurance left off. Maybe the private health companies that offer travel insurance have a clause there that enables this, if you take up on their travel insurance. Something I will investigate with my private health company, just for curiosity sake.
