Done this many times. The airport is small and you can find your way around easy. Upstairs there is only one way to get your International flight, which is through Customes then Immigration. You will have to leave/arrive International at Darwin. BUT your flight to Darwin (if you are coming from another state) may be from an International Airport like we do in Cairns. We fly Domestic but leave from the International Airport. We don't go through checks till we leave Darwin but we travel with International passengers that do.
