Hi, Just thought I would post this as there seems to be a lot good and bad reports about this Hotel.
Just back last night from 15 days in Bali. Family of 5, with 15, 12 and 7 year old. We had two deluxe rooms at Melasti Beach Resort Legian, top floor overlooking the oval pool. We did not request interconnecting and we didn't care one way or the other but did get interconnecting. I will just break this down into the categories that most of the questions about this hotel have been about on this forum.
Rooms:
Positives: The rooms were very clean, as was the linen and towels. They were cleaned every day at a time that suited us and an abundance of bottled water left. These rooms are huge and we had so much space as were the bathrooms. They are decorated in traditional furniture and we found the cupboard and draw space more than ample. The air conditioners were great, not too noisy, one did stop for about 1 hour on the last day there, but they did come and knock on our door and let us know they had a problem and had fixed it, very apologetic. We were not worried at the time. The fridges were a good size and very cold.
Negatives: More english speaking TV Channels would have been nice for my 7 year old, but he wasn't that fussed.
Reception Staff.
I have only nice things to say, from the Welcome we received to when we left, they were always polite and happy. We did not have much need to attend Reception much but didn't really see anyone else having any difficulties communicating etc.
Swimming Pools.
Both of the larger pools could definitely do with a some maintenance, just a lot chipped tiles etc. The smaller pool looked ok and very quiet. The main pool (original) was always very busy with music etc playing and lots of kids, the newer pool (oval) seemed more peaceful but still pretty busy. I will point out that we only laid by the pool twice as we did spend the majority of our time at another hotel. I can't really comment on the amount of deck chairs etc available due to this, or the pool towels.
Restaurant and Breakfast:
Positives: Good news is the restaurant is being renovated and will have a fantastic outlook over the beach once completed. We didn't eat dinner or lunch there but found breakfast quite adequate, you would be hard pressed to say that there was nothing there to suit different tastes. Whilst we aren't talking eggs benedict, there was always a fair hot selection (bacon or ham, sausages, pancakes, spaghetti, indo etc), plus the egg station (eggs anyway), toast, fresh fruits, two cereals, two juices etc.
The infamous Restaurant Manager did not approach us one time and hassle us to eat there, so maybe he has left or given up.
Negatives: They really need to purchase more cultery, there was more often than not a wait for clean knives and forks during the busy times of a morning, but seriously if having to wait a few minutes for that, and that being my only complaint, they are not doing too bad.
Overall, I would go back and stay there again to use this Hotel as a base as we did this trip. We did not spend really much time around the pools etc, but the people that did all seemed to be enjoying themselves. This hotel is very busy and I would say not that peaceful around the pools etc so if you are looking for that type of holiday, probably wouldn't recommend it. For value for money and location I don't think you can beat it. Personally I would prefer to stay somewhere more upmarket like the Hotel the rest of my family stayed at, but we could not afford the $300 US per night for the two rooms. MBR cost us half of that. As with everything, you pay for what you get, this Hotel doesn't claim to be a five star hotel, so just don't go there and expect five star when paying three star prices. Any questions, I am more than happy to answer. My apologies for any typos, very jet lagged still but wanted to write this while still fresh in my mind.
