but I have always wanted to visit Borabador (sp) in Yogjakarta. I am hoping to visit Cambodia next year to see Ankor Wat and I have read that Borabador is very similar in architectual style and age. I don't know if this interests you at all, but maybe a flight to Yogjakarta and explore for a few days? Definitely no Nyepi Day there. Air fares are cheap. (I actually love Nyepi in Bali - I have had three Nyepi Days and I love the peaceful feeling and eerie strangeness!)
In Ubud I like Ubud Bungalows - great spot and cheap, Monkey Forest Road and in Sanur you can't beat Griya Santrian for position and a bit of luxury. (If you pick up my theme, we start out cheap and then finish off with a bit of spoiling!) Good luck.
