I'm surprised at how many people want to use a card in a place like Bali. Most people going to Bali are only short stay visitors. Now unless you are paying for a large family then how much money do you really need. The majority of hotels have in room safes or deposit boxes.
I always take cash for the 2 of us. Whats a few thousand dollars in cash locked in a safe. I never have to worry about losing a card, the machine eating it or getting skimmed. Saying that I always take a credit card purely for that emergency flight home that may or may not ever be required.
The simple fact is if you take cash you leave it locked up and only ever carry a days cash with you. I've never had a problem in 10 years.
That's just my experience, but I go to enjoy myself and not worry about if I can get money or if my card might get skimmed. Let's face it, just go to McDonalds in Perth and you can be skimmed :):):)
