Grand final day was shaping up to be a cracker. We had organised with Jack at Billys to have an up the front table for 10 right in front of the big screen. Superb value for the low price of 100,000rp.
After brekky we headed out to get money changed at the Kodak and on the way back I suggested to the boss that we nick down the lane just to the left of the Febris - the one that lead to the beach - to buy some very nice billabong and quiksilver shorts for him. It was only 10am so we had plenty of time as we intended to get to Billys about 11.30am.
He tried the shorts on - yes lovely fit and as I was bargaining with the shop lady the Boss wandered a little further down the street.
If you dont know this lane, it is a very narrow laneway that just barely fits a car down it. While we were there all the balinese boys had to move their motorbikes to let a taxi get down the alleyway.
The shop stalls were right out to the edge of the footpath so we had no choice but to walk on the road. I was about to step off the road into the shop when BAM!!!!! a car had been racing down the alleyway at quite a high speed and skittled me about 6 feet where I landed in the womans shop.
My husband had seen the 4 wheel drive racing down the alleyway and jumped out of the way and had shouted a warning to me which I didnt hear. I had my back to the direction the car was coming from. The left hand mirror hit me square in the back while his left wheel ran across my left foot and the corner of the car spun me around and sent me flying. I landed on my bum very hard.
The Balinese were all shouting and gathered around and a few of them stopped the car. My husband cast a glance in my direction to make sure I was ok and made for the car. He took the keys out of the car so the driver couldnt get away. Those of you who know the boss, know he has a very short fuse and is quite volatile. I was scared he was going to kill the driver with his bare hands, but apart from a lot of shouting at the man I(who denied hitting me by the way - even though his mirror was broken off on the ground near where I was lying) the boss handled himself very well I thought.
The balinese brought me over some water and gently washed my ankle and my elbow which had a lot of bark off it, but I couldnt stand up as I was in too much pain.
It turned out the driver was a greek man living in Bali who had gotten lost and gone down the one way alleyway the wrong way. The balinese were shouting and gesturing for him to go back but he panicked and tried to get out the other side by going too fast. He was scared another car would come the other way.
He parked down the main street and him and the boss walked back to the hotel while I got in a taxi because I couldnt walk very well.
Febris rang a doctor who came and checked out my spine and gave me a painkiller injection. My coccyx was very bruised and for a while I thought I was going to pass out and/or throw up.
The boss rang our insurance company who at first would not commit to covering my accident - finally they said they would cover it providing I went to the hospital for Xrays.
As I was fairly comfortable after the injection and they were pretty sure I had no bone injuries we stayed in the room - because luckily the grand final was on the TV LOL - so everybody crowded into my room and we watched the footy. Unfortunately I couldnt even have a beer because of the injection.
Next - the Saga with the 2 doctors, 2 ambulances and 2 hospitals.
