Hi,
Just back from 4 days in Bali with my 13yo daughter. We've both been a few times before so not much new to add in terms of a JBR, but when my daughter is asked what the highlight of the trip was for her, the response is always "our day at Balinese Cultural Creation" - so I thought I should give it a mention.
Their website is http://www.balineseculturalcreation.com/overview.html I emailed Wiwiek to book and she was quick to respond with pricing. They're in Denpasar, we were picked up at 9am from Poppies 1 and took only 30mins to arrive. We did the gamelan course (about 1hr) and the batik course (about 2hrs), both of which were very interesting and lots of fun. Cost was 400,000 per person (in total for those 2 courses), which also included pick up/drop off.
By the end of the gamelan session we could both play a couple of simple tunes, also got to try out the Balinese flute, gongs and reyong. With batik there were a selection of pre-printed hanky sized pieces available, we chose 2 and using 2 different techniques used wax/paint to colour them, both of us were very happy with our creations.
We were the only people in each class, we were also given a tour of the grounds (which are stunning), and had a lovely lunch prepared for us after our classes (paid for separately). If you're after a great mother/daughter activity, you can't go past them. They also do cooking classes, Balinese painting, silverwork, woodcarving and more - even classes for younger kids.
