AA carry-on(s)?

I have a question about what you are allowed to carry-on on AA. I have read their website that gives size limits of < 56cm X 36cm X 23cm and < 7kg. So is each person only allowed 1 carry-on? Or is it like on most US carriers, 1 carry-on and 1 personal item?
