Previously Visited Restaurants
I often remind friends not to be too concerned if places do not live up to their previous good memories. Things change so often in Bali and staff & owners move around too. I always try to give most places a second chance.
Breeze located on the beach of the Samaya Hotel/Resort Jl Laksmana Seminyak
This place is as much a destination as it is an eating experience. If I were in New York or LA I would be busy trying to spot the celebrity. It oozes with class and atmosphere. Even to entrance to the loo has a grand view.
The menu has plenty of choice offering a Big Breakfast, Indonesian, American , Eggstras and Light & Healthy selections.
American breakfast 185,000 included juice, croissants, preserves, honey, fruit, cereal and a choice of
Smoked Tasmanian salmon, Eggs Benedict, Pancakes, Frittatas, Baby potatoes, mushroom & feta cheese, slow roasted cherry tomatoes & basil, Creamy scrambled eggs. Traditional B&E, Goats cheese omelette, Breakfast burritos
Eggstras for 55,00 were asparagus & hollandaise, crispy bacon or homemade baked beans.
The tropical fruit plate looked nice for 80,000 and cereals & yoghurt was 60,000
2 pieces of toast was 60,000
Our bill came to 1,729,090 rp ( tax was inc and was 300,090rp)
The company was wonderful , the service was flawless yet not warming and make you feel at home service.
The place lost points from me when the juice was at room temperature. It reminded me of the welcome drink you get from many establishments. I was so missing the icy granitas I so love at La Luciolas.
I paid $30 AUD for a nice but not that impressive breakfast
It would only be a special celebration that would get me back here.
Legends - Jl Sahadewa Legian
Always have a relaxing time here- perhaps it's because I know I only have to saunter across the road to get home. Plenty of entertainment every night from both staff and patrons
A memorable evening this trip we attended LADIES NIGHT - A BBQ
You could choose Sirloin, TBone, Beef Tenderloin or Chicken Breast served with Mixed salad, Potato Salad, Cole Slow(Slaw)Garlic Butter, Gravy Sauce ,Mushroom Sauce for 55,000Rp. Now the steaks are very thin but I ordered mine very rare, 'very rare with blood ' was how I requested it and it was delivered to my table tasty & tender( for a thin steak).
They also had a limited A'la Carte selection as well. These included Spring Rolls 12,500, Calamary(sp) Deep 15,000 Tom Yam Go'ng 17,500 Chicken or Beef Gordon Bleu 44,500 ( that Gordon sure gets around the restaurants) , Chicken Parmagima 44,500, Crispy Calamary(sp)39,500, Crunbed Prawn 49,500, Beef Tenderloin or Sirloin 44,5000, Beef Hotplate 37,500 Saty 42,500 and Ice Cream , 6000 seem the only dessert offering on the night.
There is a good variety of drinks at reasonable prices.

Legends has renovated (a little) and extended their premises and the bar is now an L shape on the left side of the building.
Legends do well as a result of repeat business, happy go lucky staff and good live entertainment.
I can't recall seeing anyone leaving there without a smile on their dial
Bali Bagus Jl Padma Utara Legian (near Posers)
Place was fairly quite and conservative when we 6 ladies arrived but it soon livened up as we sang along with the jazzy background mood music.

Bianco - Jl Padma Legian
The driftwood light décor is still a calming change after feeling hot and humid treading the footpaths of Bali . The band was also enjoyable and kept the place hopping. This restaurant has an enormous size menu not just in choices but in dimensions too.
Plenty of pastas, 17 Indonesian dishes 27,000 to 75,000
Sandwiches & burgers, pizzas soups & salads and the Grand Rijstaffel 315,000.
Although none of my favourites in the Indonesian lot were on offer I ordered and enjoyed Chap chay
This place has never disappointed
Billys : Jln Sahadewa Legian
Heard that the cook from Moonlight Bar was now cooking here so we squeezed ourselves through the many patrons to find a table down the back in a hot stuffy corner . They managed to find us a fan but we watched as they continued to pack more people in . It was a case of too many for so few tables and fans. Our service was slow but they were so busy trying to service so many. There were also power surges for at least an hour. They probably had too many fans plugged into the joint.
The special Mei Goering was 40,000 and a was a big let down
The rest of my company ordered
Calamari 60,000 - Chicken curry 40,000
Sirloin 75,000 -Chicken schnitzel 45,000
Garlic Bread 15,000
No one was too impressed with their meal and the customer service struggles to keep every one happy when they are so busy
I will think twice before revisiting Jack and the friendly gang for a meal. If it's busy I will pass on the temptation.
Moonlight Bar: formally Breeze now Swish Jl Sahadewa Legian Not the usuall greeting this visit and we learned that Desak was leaving and the cook had already left and moved across the road to Billys. Sad to see this usually welcoming place so dull and dreary. I hate the new décor ( the tacky wall murals belong in some back street of Paris) but I also hated the previous hot pink & black. The cold towels were appreciated.
I usually love the tami chap chay here but this meal was a 2/10 . The veggies were stir fried to perfection but the noodles were stale, stiff and tasted like they came from one of those instant noodle meals. The staff are all friendly as are the many street vendors who pop in and out to flog you a few CD's DVD's and 'silly items' you don't really want to buy but do .
Bali Garden Hotel Along the Board Walk north of Discovery Mall. An easy walk.
Plenty of guests were also dining in the open air restaurant enjoying meals & snacks.
We ordered
Bruschetta 20,000- Mie Goreng 26,000- Vegetable Samosas 15,000
Nasi Goreng 27,000 - Toasted Ham & Cheese Sandwich 32,000
Peanut Encrusted Satay 46,000 -Pineapple juice 16,000
Small Bintang 21,000 - Diet Coke 15,000
This busy place does simple dishes well, has good service and is a nice place to regroup after a few hours of frantic shopping.
Warung Yogya Jln Padma Utara Legian
Often drop in the this beaut little warung.
Lontong Cap Gomeh (chicken curry) 25,000 -Mie Kuah (chicken noodle soup) 16,000
Mie/nasi Goreng 16,000 - Tempe Goreng 6,000
Gado Gado 16,000- Juices 7,000 Bintang 19,000 & 27,0000 and Ice cubes 1,000
This place may continue to get my patronage, but it has good opposition across the road ( Warung Jawa) I rarely spend more than 30.000 for a great feed and a drink. Don't be put off by the 'how do ya do' decor
Warung Kartini Gg Three Brothers behind Sri Ratu ,Turn down the gang alongside All Seasons hotel. Another great local feed for song.
Lumpia 9,500 for starters
I enjoyed Tami Special 19,500( Fried noodles with seafood sauce)
Sweet&7 Sour Shrimp 24,000- Fried noodles with chicken 11,5000
All 4 of us enjoyed our dishes including a few cold Bintangs and after a tip still would have each received change from $10.
I will never miss having at least one meal here each stay.
Suriwathi Hotel Restaurant ....Had a few quick snacks prepared by the loveable larrikin Ketut. Always good for a quick fix and he does most Indo meals with ease. I would probably eat there more often if there weren't so many other good places so close by.
Wayan & Friends Jl Padma Legian
We were seated at the back alongside the gang. I was more worried I would forget how close to the edge our chairs were and jump up and humpty dumpty to the road. It was refreshingly cool at the side and I would elect to sit there again . The background music was rather distracting- For me Balinese Reggae is not my choice of dining enjoyment.
The service was excellent - it was busy when we arrived and the staff worked non stop to attend to people . The menu included specials, nice appetisers 8 Indonesian dishes 30,000 to 40,000,4 pastas 46,000 and 5 schnitzels 60,000. I was disappointed for the first time with Wayans - the garlic prawns & calamari were tough possibly overcooked. A couple commented that their schnapper was dry also
Cat and Fiddle 36 Jalan Cemara No. 36,Sanur
I enjoy every visit here and usually order the famous Guinness Pie or Cottage Pie with mashed potato and gravy. If I am really feeling homesick I have bangers and mash. There is also plenty of Indonesian & Vegetarian dishes to choose from. The resident band is the Bali Leprechuns and on most Tuesday nights they are joined by the owner Mark and his brother Phil. Mark's 'other job' is the Honorary British Consul. In fact the Consulate use to be co-located with the restaurant. They play real foot tapping /sing along Irish and English pub music. I even had the Bali spoons out for a few songs.
This trip I had the Mixed Grill 89,000. Other dishes ordered were the Guinness Pie 60,000 , Fish & Chips 58,000 , Grilled Tuna with Shrimp Sauce 60,000. Coke was 12,000a can . JW Scotch & Dry 50,000. Everyone had a great time and all enjoyed their meals.
I did miss the giggles with Smudge & Made as I am often in their delightful company when I visit C&F. This place is my comfort food stop and I am happy to make the trip from Legian to Sanur to be entertainedand enjoy a reminisce of my darling Mum's meals
Bonsai Jl 27 Danau Tambligan Sanur (beachfront on Sanur beach)
As usual busy but still able to offer prompt and attentive service All our meals were nice quality and quantity. Fresh ingredients and nice presentation. Seafood was enjoyed by all who ordered it. I loved the garlic prawns. I am sorry I haven't listed individual meals & costs I must have lost my notes for this place .
We dined on the sand and were first entertained by a couple of playful dogs and then at dark we oo'ed and ah'ed at some amazing fireworks. Not sure what the reason for the fireworks but we and the rest of the folks in the area enjoyed them. There is also a large inside seating area but we preferred the beach.
If you get the chance don't miss the amazing garden of bonsai plants at the rear of the restaurant. Not sure if its lit at night we strolled through during the day. Thousands of dollars worth of mature plants in the garden.
Well folks that's it for 2010.This lot makes 5 years of reviews. I have had fun writing them and I cant wait to begin 2011's .I have gained back 15 of the 20 kgs I lost and am about to embark on a cruise to celebrate my hubbys birthday and my retirement so I will no doubt find the other 5kgs
I can't help thinking of that lively song from Oliver written by Lionel Bart. Some of the lyrics being so appropriate to my holidays in Bali
'Food, glorious food!
We're anxious to try it.
Three banquets a day --
Our favourite diet!'
Food, glorious food!
Eat right through the menu.
Just loosen your belt
Two inches and then you
Work up a new appetite.'
Anyone got a cheap exercise bike for sale?
Maybe I need a date with Tony, Gloria or Jenny
