the smells of bali have been with me ever since. It was an eye opener. I stayed at Nakula losmens in legian - outdoor bathroom, own sheets from Oz, frogs wanting to share my cold shower, and a fair amount of geckos. Had to pass a lot of cows on the way walking to the beach and back, seemed a long bush trek then, now, short cut through Niksoma. Nakula still has the sign but is empty block - for the newer people, it is opposite mugshot coffee shop in Legian near fairy shop, only selling transport and petrol. But it was different with buildings, and gardens. Anyone else stay at Nakula? I remember the thermos of tea and bananas at your door for breakfast and the guy Crass that managed it.
We ate at Happys a lot for jaffles, Rum Jungle and Mini's. I went on plenty of pub crawls but don't remember much other than police with guns.
Stayed at Kitimani $2 a night, and loved the garlic bread that was slivers of garlic and coffee with condensed milk - still love bali coffee with condensed milk. Swam in the hot springs of the lake below.
Stayed somewhere in Lovina with the black sand beach and calm water.
