Yes we use the Bali bags also, but being frequent travellers we have had the handles resewn firmer by a tailor over there. Also we line the bag with a garbage bag in case of rain, we superglue the end zip pockets together, no need for them and we duct tape the handles together, also place a tie down strap around the middle so that they don't burst. We've had the same bags for 4 years now and we go twice sometimes 3 times a year. We have the extra large No. 7 bags, they can take 20 kilos each and we carry any breakables (not liquids) in our hand luggage. The over the shoulder strap helps to drag it through to the checkin desk or use a trolley if need be.
If travelling further a field I would say yes the suitcases in Bali are cheaper to buy but be aware that some are fakes and check the quality of the one you are buying and the weight of it. Have purchased original surf brand suitcases at about 1/3 rd off Australian prices in the surf outlet shops.
