I had the root canal work done in Australia for my tooth and my dentist recommended waiting a couple of months before having the crown - up to a year if I wished, as there can sometimes be infections if not all the root is removed during the root canal procedure. He actually put a temporary fill in for two weeks before putting the final cap on the tooth just to be sure all was clear.
The other thing that can go wrong is if they drill past the end of the root and the filler material can push through into the gum and cause infection - and this actually happened to me. Two doses of antibiotics later and all was good, but it was extremely painful before the infection cleared up.
I had my crown done 12 months later by Dr Rudy and have had no problems at all and that was 2 years ago now. I am very glad I didn't get both procedures done at the same time though.
