We went down to Suzie and Sammies a few afternoons. Dad really got into the spirit and first visit had Kim giving him a manicure, I think Kelly massaged his shoulders and Suzie attended to his feet. Best 75000rp he'd spent in a while! A day or so before we came home, Dad asked the girls to paint flowers, palm trees, geckos and spiders on his fingernails. Gee he has got good mileage out of it since he got home. He proudly shows off his nails to most people he meets!
Sammy ensures the drinks are cold and fairly priced.
I went to Ita's salon (Jl Sahadewa, Legian) for a haircut first day. I always used to have my haircut before leaving for Bali but these days I time it to be due for a cut as soon as I arrive. I am always happy with the result, but as Dad says, its only a week or so between a good cut and a bad one. I pay 35000rp.
I also had a trim on my last day.
Sue wanted to have some rings remodelled and some bits and pieces repaired. On recommendation of the BTF I suggested we go seek out Ms Pak at Bali Rani. (I have used Burham in Denpasar at Permata, but its a pain to drive into the city). I think Sue paid about au$70 per ring, using her gold and stones. The finished jewellery met expectations and looks lovely. I will use her next trip.
I called into 911 dental clinic to make appointment with Dr Rudi. Its now upstairs at Bali Galeria, opposite where it used to be, but up a level.
I had 2 crowns which were sensitive to extremes in temperature. I wondered if the crown was cracked. Dr Rudi checked it out thoroughly and said maybe it needs root canal treatment but also maybe Sensodyne toothpaste with help settle it down. Seems to have improved.
Here I was thinking I would need to have a new crown or two, and in end, only had to pay for consultation. (150,000rp).
They have a number of consultation rooms and the equipment looks hi-tech.
Ace hardware is now at the front end of Bali Galeria (opposite end to Matahari and Hypermart).
Trevor and Dad wanted to check out the tools, but found prices to be expensive. I bought a few non-tools but definitely not cheap.
I love the Matahari and Hypermart and there never seems to be many people in the shops and centre. Its easy to park too.
My only complaint is that I had to turn left on exiting the centre and head toward Tuban. The u-turn break in the barrier is quite a way down the road. (Oh well, if thats the worst thing that happens to me, I will survive!)
I checked out the post office prices at Bintang S/M for posting back to Australia. They quoted 20kg, 2,700,00rp (au$340 ish) for delivery in 5 days. They pack the goods. Delivery in 3 weeks cost 2,419,800rp. Sea mail, same 20kg, 500,000rp.
Have you ever been asked to buy from ‘Didi's Avon lady' in Jl Sahadewa area. Her real name is Yanti and she sells lip gloss, perfumes, eye shadows etc. We seemed to meet her each time we headed out the front pathway. Di tried some of her perfume last April. Her skin reacted and Di mentioned to Yanti that it had caused a reaction. Yanti moved on and asked Di is she wanted lip gloss. No point in dwelling on negatives!
More later .....
