I'm not sure when you stayed there last but rather than a gradual deterioration I would have said the opposite.
We just holidayed there only last month (June 2101) for 3 weeks in the 4BR Diamond Villa with family and friends. The Diamond has just been fully renovated inside, with new bathrooms and Bali style pebbled floors and carved stone baths etc, also new polished timber floor panelling installed throughout the villa, and the villas interior freshly re-painted. The staff told me that the whole place is gradually being renovated.
By the main pool where last year there was a dreary old unused carpark there is now a paved outdoor lounge and recreation area with five huge wicker outdoor lounge settings with market umbrellas and a lovely play area for the kiddies, with trampoline, see-saw etc... (SEE LINK TO A PIC BELOW)
The breakfast buffet is fantastic and beats the old "order and wait" system they had before.
I'm not sure about the clash of bookings or the blocked drain you experienced but then again that could happen anywhere, the VPA is still a great place to stay for mine and without doubt one of Sanur's secret hideaways.
