Whilst not as predominant as windows machines. Macs are not immune to viruses, malware etc. No Computer is safe. With many people switching to Macs for various reasons the hackers etc have and continue to design bots to infect Mac machines. There has been a recent botnet detected that was in torrent files designed to infect Macs which made the machine a virtual zombie. Apple like the perception that they are virus free, reality is they are not.
All care should be taken no matter what system you use.
