Hi,
I have just copied this from the Perth International airport -- this may help you with what you are allowed to being in.
Duty Free Allowances
Duty free allowances apply to passengers entering Australia.
Each adult is allowed the following items:
•2250ml of alcoholic beverage
•250 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco products
•Unlimited fragrance for personal use (excluding concentrates).
Each adult over 18 years is allowed A$900 worth of other goods, while each child is allowed A$450. Alternatively, you can combine your allowances on the one declaration with your immediate family (maximum two adults per family), which means two adults and two children = A$2700.
In regard to when and how what has been stated on here is correct - - you can buy from anywhere within 30 of travelling and present the tax receipt and the goods to collect the refund. You can also order anything to be ready for collection when you return but you must collect it before you go through immiogration.
Hope this helps
