duty free, BUT there is a limit per person (i think about $400 each) and if you go over then you have to pay the duty. Whether you take it with you or pick up when arriving back is up to you. I always order my alcohol for arriving back in Australia before I leave so I don't have to line up and buy it. I am also buying a new digital camera on my next trip but will take it with me so I can use it in Bali!
Be aware though that if you are in Australia and you are buying alcohol (or any other liquids) then you will have to buy it after you have gone through security/immigration as they will take it off you due to the 100ml rule for onboard liquids (unless it has been bought in the departure lounge area). Most airports have a website you can check and purchase from too for convenience.
