for the snorkelling, 3 minutes to the beach (no sand, large pebbles/rocks (take crocs to wear till you put your flippers on) snorkel out 5 metres to beautiful coral and fish, there's a great little cafe/warung right there where you can hire snorkel gear and good food and drinks, restaurant at Balibuku is very very nice too.

We stay at Eka Pernama with George and Iluh which is right next door (and resident dog Agus who we take for walks every day, maybe not this year though with the rabies risk). A couple of rustic bungalows with great views from each verandah (a new family bungalow is in the planning stage), very reasonable in price, I think around 250,000 rp (forgotten whether this incudes breakfast, I think it does) we have our bali kopi at the little shop/warung down the road first thing in the morning, check out the fishing boats, and then come back for breakfast.

You can organise to go out with the fishermen fleet at 5.30am, great non touristy experience, you get to keep a couple of fish and the rest goes in the co-op truck that comes past every morning to collect the fish for selling at a market. Also you can organise a trek into the mountains behind, we go with Made Dupra, a young local chap we met a couple of years ago. No hawkers either .... enjoy!
