Eating: cheap and cheerful you can't beat the warungs to the left of the hotel along the beach - our favourite is Bobby's but all are great value and food.
more up market - my discovery last year was Charming on the main street just up from the ganesh roundabout before you get to the Hyatt on the same side of the road. Beautiful surroundings and wonderful food
Casa Luna on the opposite side of the road from charming is also good.

Shopping:

there are lots of shops for the ladies near Hardy's but my all time favourite is Ibisa on the same side of the street but a bit further along up towards the Bonsai cafe. Not cheap by Bali standards but fabulous fabrics and european sizes.

Hardy's is also good for shopping but not the upstairs part. Go to the supermarket and you can get lots of little souvenir style pressies as well as bintangs and soft drinks.
The coffee place across from hardy's is very trendy with prices to match but excellent cafe style menu.

You will love Sanur - so less crowded and cleaner than Kuta.
