We were just in Bali (6-13 June) and hired a GPS from Bali Navigator. The GPS was pricey by Bali standards (500,000 + $USD200 equivalent bond) but was the best money (apart from the motorbike hire) that we spent. It took us the right way down roads, picked the best route and meant we hardly got lost at all. My only 2 complaints were 1) the Kuta hire outlet is temporarily closed and we had to pick it up and drop it off in Sanur (but this was an experience in itself anyway!) and 2) the GPS unit didn't easily renavigate if you missed a road. We solved this problem by turning it off and back on again and getting it to recalculate the route.
It all depends on how far you want to take the bike - after a short while you'll be familiar with the Kuta one way system. We used it go to down as far as Uluwatu and up as far as Marine park. :)
