we stayed in Sanur for the 1st time last Dec/Jan in a small hotel not far from the SBH & these were some of the best restaurants we tried:
Donald's (on the beachfront) turn left as you exit the SBH to beach & walk along the path. Donald's should be the 1st or 2nd restaurant you come to
Beach Cafe (also on the beachfront but a bike or taxi ride from SBH -the directions I was given by a helpful forumite were:
"Catch a taxi to the end of Jln Pantai Sindhu, turn right & the Beach Cafe is a short walk along the beachfront, if you reach Bonsai cafe you have come too far"
The steak here is the best I have had over my 7 trips to Bali & the dessert tasting plate is also fantastic
Kokoya (Japanese - highly recommend this place, especially for lunch as it is quiet then, icy cold aircon & cold towels upon arrival)
Jln. Danau Tamblingan 178
Phone: 289252
It is on the main drag next to an American style diner (the name of which escapes me but you can't miss it - it has very "loud" exterior decor!).
Massimo's (Italian) is also on the main drag & not far to walk from the SBH. They have the best gelato - YUM! Can't wait to go back in October & try a few more flavours :o)
As for pubs, we had our 3yo with us so they weren't a big priority but the Trophy & Cat & Fiddle were popular.
Shopping "for your missus" is a hard one. I'm not sure what she likes to shop for, I'm more of a "quality over quantity" shopper so I spend a lot of time looking & don't buy much. Inti boutique opposite Hardy's on the main road has gorgeous shoes & handbags at what I think are pretty reasonable prices. Lots of styles of "bling bling" sandals in sizes up to an Aus 9 or 10 (I have big feet LOL) for around AU$60/each. They also have a lot of fine cotton/silk clothes which are great quality & gorgeous fabrics.
I also highly recommend Bali Inti Gane salon for their facials - if you do a search of the forum you'll find the details in a previous post of mine. It is well worth the $5 or $6 she'll spend on taxi fares to get there.
Enjoy your 1st stay in Sanur - we had such a great time we're going back in Oct :o)
