I went to Bali in March 2010 and my bank (NAB) talked me into getting a NAB Gold Visa Debit. It is especially for overseas travel and doesn't incur fees on ATM's or currency conversion, the only fee is $10 per month, which can be waived if you deposit $5000 during the month. I withdraw when in Bali about 10 times, and when I got back home I went into the Bank and cancelled the card immediately, as I cancelled it within 1 month of opening the account I didn't incur the $10 monthly fee. I only used it as an eftpos card, but it was a Visa Debit, so could be used as a credit card also.
